What is Eflornithine 11.5% (Vaniqa)?

Eflornithine cream slows facial hair growth by blocking ornithine decarboxylase, an enzyme hair follicles need to grow. Applied twice daily, it thins and slows regrowth rather than removing hair, and works alongside whatever removal method the patient already uses.

The condition it treats

Facial hirsutism is excessive terminal hair growth in a male pattern on a woman's face, most commonly driven by polycystic ovary syndrome. Its psychological burden is routinely underestimated, and a structured consultation also screens for endocrine causes that deserve investigation rather than cream.

How the service runs on Scripter

Patients book online, complete the pre-consultation questionnaire, and the guided pathway walks the practitioner through the facial hirsutism in women consultation with the screening and counselling steps built in. The supply decision, the record and any GP notification are produced in the same flow, documented against the exact protocol version in force.

Training and eligibility requirements.

Who can deliver this service, and who it can be delivered to. The governing PGD document defines the definitive inclusion, exclusion and supply criteria; the Scripter consultation pathway enforces them, and every consultation is documented against the protocol version it ran under.

Eflornithine 11.5% (Vaniqa) PGD questions

Does Vaniqa remove hair?+

No. It slows and thins regrowth, so plucking, threading or shaving is needed less often. The visible benefit builds over about eight weeks of twice-daily use.

What happens if treatment stops?+

Hair growth returns to its previous pattern within about eight weeks; that is normal pharmacology, not treatment failure, and the consultation sets that expectation.

When is hirsutism a GP matter instead?+

Rapid-onset hirsutism, irregular periods with other endocrine features, or signs of virilisation point to causes that need investigation; the pathway refers those rather than supplying.
