What is Neomycin / polymyxin / hydrocortisone (Otosporin)?

Otosporin ear drops pair two antibiotics (neomycin and polymyxin B) with hydrocortisone, covering the bacteria that drive otitis externa, including Pseudomonas, while the steroid settles swelling and itch.

The condition it treats

Otitis externa is infection and inflammation of the ear canal, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacterium that loves warm wet canals, is a frequent culprit. Drops with polymyxin cover it directly.

How the service runs on Scripter

Patients book online, complete the pre-consultation questionnaire, and the guided pathway walks the practitioner through the otitis externa consultation with the screening and counselling steps built in. The supply decision, the record and any GP notification are produced in the same flow, documented against the exact protocol version in force.

Training and eligibility requirements.

Who can deliver this service, and who it can be delivered to. The governing PGD document defines the definitive inclusion, exclusion and supply criteria; the Scripter consultation pathway enforces them, and every consultation is documented against the protocol version it ran under.

Neomycin / polymyxin / hydrocortisone (Otosporin) PGD questions

Otomize or Otosporin: how is the choice made?+

Both treat the same condition; the consultation weighs presentation, patient preference for spray versus drops, and the governing PGD's criteria, and records the rationale.

How are ear drops best put in?+

Lying with the affected ear up, dropping without the nozzle touching the ear, then staying put a few minutes; the pathway includes the technique because it decides whether the medicine reaches the infection.

What if it is not better in a week?+

Failure to improve, worsening pain or spreading redness moves the patient to referral; the consultation record gives the GP the treatment history in one look.
