What is Sildenafil?

Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, the same medicine originally marketed as Viagra. Taken around an hour before sexual activity, it increases blood flow to the penis in response to sexual stimulation. It does not cause an erection on its own and has no effect on desire.

The condition it treats

Erectile dysfunction is the persistent inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sex. It is common, affecting most men occasionally and many regularly with age, and can be an early marker of cardiovascular disease, which is why the consultation includes blood pressure and cardiovascular screening rather than being a simple checkout.

How the service runs on Scripter

Patients book online, complete the pre-consultation questionnaire, and the guided pathway walks the practitioner through the erectile dysfunction consultation with the screening and counselling steps built in. The supply decision, the record and any GP notification are produced in the same flow, documented against the exact protocol version in force.

Training and eligibility requirements.

Who can deliver this service, and who it can be delivered to. The governing PGD document defines the definitive inclusion, exclusion and supply criteria; the Scripter consultation pathway enforces them, and every consultation is documented against the protocol version it ran under.

Sildenafil PGD questions

Which strength will be supplied?+

The consultation determines the starting strength, typically 50 mg for most men, adjusted down to 25 mg or up to 100 mg based on response, tolerability and the criteria in the governing PGD.

Why does an ED consultation check blood pressure?+

Erectile dysfunction can be an early sign of cardiovascular disease, and PDE5 inhibitors interact dangerously with nitrates. The pathway screens for both before any supply.

Can the same patient also buy sildenafil over the counter?+

Sildenafil 50 mg is separately available as a pharmacy medicine (Viagra Connect); this PGD covers a fuller strength range with a structured consultation and record.
