What is Chlorhexidine / neomycin cream (Naseptin)?

Naseptin combines an antiseptic with a topical antibiotic to clear bacterial infection at the entrance of the nostrils. It is applied to both nostrils several times a day for a defined course, and the consultation checks for peanut and soya allergy because the cream contains arachis oil.

The condition it treats

Nasal vestibulitis is infection of the skin just inside the nose, usually with Staphylococcus, causing crusting, tenderness and sometimes a boil. It often follows nose picking, hair plucking or persistent rhinitis, and untreated cases can spread.

How the service runs on Scripter

Patients book online, complete the pre-consultation questionnaire, and the guided pathway walks the practitioner through the nasal vestibule infection consultation with the screening and counselling steps built in. The supply decision, the record and any GP notification are produced in the same flow, documented against the exact protocol version in force.

Training and eligibility requirements.

Who can deliver this service, and who it can be delivered to. The governing PGD document defines the definitive inclusion, exclusion and supply criteria; the Scripter consultation pathway enforces them, and every consultation is documented against the protocol version it ran under.

Chlorhexidine / neomycin cream (Naseptin) PGD questions

Why do you ask about peanut allergy?+

Naseptin contains arachis (peanut) oil, so it cannot be supplied to anyone with peanut or soya allergy; an alternative is advised.

How long is the course?+

Around ten days for infection, applied to both nostrils; the governing PGD sets the exact duration.

When should I seek urgent help?+

Swelling spreading to the cheek or eye, fever, or worsening pain, which can indicate a deeper infection.
