What is Meningococcal B?

MenB vaccines (Bexsero, Trumenba) protect against group B meningococcus, the group behind most UK invasive disease. Multi-dose schedules differ by brand and age, which the pathway sequences correctly.

The condition it treats

Group B meningococcal disease strikes fast and young: infants, teenagers and young adults in shared accommodation carry the highest risk. Private vaccination fills the gaps the routine programme leaves, including older children and university entrants.

How the service runs on Scripter

Patients book online, complete the pre-consultation questionnaire, and the guided pathway walks the practitioner through the meningococcal b protection consultation with the screening and counselling steps built in. The supply decision, the record and any GP notification are produced in the same flow, documented against the exact protocol version in force.

Training and eligibility requirements.

Who can deliver this service, and who it can be delivered to. The governing PGD document defines the definitive inclusion, exclusion and supply criteria; the Scripter consultation pathway enforces them, and every consultation is documented against the protocol version it ran under.

Meningococcal B PGD questions

My teenager had MenACWY at school; is B covered?+

No; the school dose covers A, C, W and Y. Group B needs its own course, which is the commonest reason families come through this pathway.

How many doses will be needed?+

It depends on brand and age at first dose; the consultation lays out the exact schedule and the booking flow holds the follow-ups.

Why the paracetamol advice for babies?+

Bexsero commonly causes fever in infants and prophylactic paracetamol is formally recommended alongside it; the counselling step scripts the doses for parents.
