What is MMR vaccine?

MMR is a live attenuated combined vaccine given as two doses at least four weeks apart. The private service is used by adults unsure of their vaccination history, students, healthcare workers and travellers to areas with measles outbreaks.

The condition it treats

Measles is highly infectious and can cause pneumonia and encephalitis; mumps causes swelling of the salivary glands and can lead to orchitis or deafness; rubella in pregnancy damages the unborn child. Two MMR doses give lasting protection against all three.

How the service runs on Scripter

Patients book online, complete the pre-consultation questionnaire, and the guided pathway walks the practitioner through the measles, mumps and rubella protection consultation with the screening and counselling steps built in. The supply decision, the record and any GP notification are produced in the same flow, documented against the exact protocol version in force.

Training and eligibility requirements.

Who can deliver this service, and who it can be delivered to. The governing PGD document defines the definitive inclusion, exclusion and supply criteria; the Scripter consultation pathway enforces them, and every consultation is documented against the protocol version it ran under.

MMR vaccine PGD questions

I do not know whether I had MMR as a child. Should I have it?+

Yes. There is no harm in additional doses for someone already immune, and unvaccinated adults are at real risk in an outbreak.

Can I have MMR while pregnant?+

No, it is a live vaccine and is deferred until after delivery.

Why two doses?+

A single dose leaves a proportion of people unprotected against measles; the second dose closes that gap.
